or Possibly the closest thing to heaven on earth in Intramuros, Manila.
So we went to the San Agustin museum in Intramuros Manila last week but what really got us excited was where we would eat. I've eaten at Ilustrado but while the food was excellent, the prices were too steep. I thought we could try out Barbara's , which is also a well- known establishment which had friendlier prices.
But my officemate Steph said she had read some bad reviews online and soshe chose Ristorante delle Mitre, which was the resto the priests and nuns went to. And it was amazing
The only problem one would encounter is the vast array of choices. They have italian, filipino, spanish, chinese cuisine. I think i even saw the singaporean chicken rice in there. There were also set menus featuring the favorite meals of certain Pinoy priests and bishops... Their menu was a booklet as thick as a prayer booklet.
Photos courtesy of my boss, Aileen and JilsonAnd though it took a while to cook, especially since they were jampacked, most every order was exceptional. We ordered the sinigang na baboy (P178) which was just ok, but then came the steaming bowl of sinampalukang manok (P198) and it was amazing! I don't know if this is the traditional recipe but i saw bits of ginger, garlic and chili flakes. I want to try a version of this with some fresh fish.
We also had crispy pata (P408), grilled tuna, sauteed mushrooms and a salad for my vegetarian boss, bicol express(P168), and salmon with spinach. They were all great!
And to cap our meal, we made room for dessert: cheesecake with a generous topping of real blueberries, calamansi cheescake, and chocolate fudge cake. All equally delicious and rich, yet not very heavy on the tummy. All made in the resto.
Best of all, the total bill for a hungry group of 8, was less than P4,000
Ristorante delle Mitre is right in front of san agustin church.
