Strawberry
shortcake P125 from bebe rouge, near sacred heart makati. French
patisserie run by japanese chefs. Très cher but the cutest packaging
non? The place looks very chi-chi but there are biscuits and snacks that cost around P50
Binatog is now offered in malls! Bought a large order (P25) from Mang Binatog at SM Bicutan
I am not a fan of cheesecake but Kitchen's Best has a Macadamia Brittle Cheescake that is impossible to resist. I think I said that their chocolate cake tasted like sin but their macadamia brittle was redemption! (P1,780 for the 9" cake and P180 per slice)
Purple Oven's Rustic chocolate torte (P820) is like a choclate sans rival with whipped cream and slabs of more chocolate!

Random adventures in food
My aunt sent us a big slab of smoked salmon and I thought I'd make a salmon and cream cheese spread just like the one Chef Jessie Sincioco of 100 Revolving Restaurant makes.

Dimsum break with friends
![]() |
| Love that the dimsum is served in those containers |
Dimsum break in Manila is a cafeteria-style resto with an array of dimsum varieties behind a glass case from which you select your meal and the famous "original steamed rice"
Apparently, this was different from the steamed rice we have here which is just plain cooked rice, to the consternation of Cebuanos who were expecting rice topped with a mix of meat and shrimps in a savory sauce that was a meal in itself.
Everything was great and very tasty but we may have ordered too much as we had a lot left over even after so many hours of eating and laughing over stories old and new. But our host didn't mind because their prices are very affordable! Dimsum orders were just P65 while the steamed rice was just P68! These are very student-friendly prices so it's no wonder this place is a hit!
And there are so many other items on the menu we haven't even tried! Lomi / Pancit canton/ Wanton noodles for P80, siopao for P38, desserts for P55... It's just a pity that it's a bit far from my place. But lucky for everyone else in Quezon City!

Food finds in Makati
I discovered lots of new food outlets all around Makati this year which I shared on my facebook/instagram account but I'd also like to place them here. They're not new but I only recently experienced them and I hope you enjoy them vicariously!
Deco's Batchoy in Alphaland, Makati. It's said to be more authentic than Ted's batchoy though they both have a lot of MSG to me. Curious that there is no option to add an egg to the soup. Well, I bought an egg from the supermarket anyway. Prices range from P75 up. There is no difference between the regular, special or extra orders. The serving size just gets bigger.

Mama's day at MoMo Cafe
For Mother's day, Mama wanted to go someplace new so I thought of Momo Cafe in Ayala Triangle which was my second choice for where we were going to hold our triple birthday celebration before we eventually settled for Tender Bob's.

mama's birthday at mann hann and wee nam kee
My mom's birthday was going to be on a Sunday but mama wanted to spend it on a Saturday so we would have a longer time bonding since it would be my day off. But that meant we'd have to go to megamall in Pasig since Twinx and her hubby had to go to nearby Robinson's for a seminar after lunch. We'd also get to play with baby Alex while his parents were out. So I asked around and finally settled on Mann Hann, a chinese restaurant which also owned a Filipino restaurant beside it called Mannang. Megamall, though is not our usual hangout so we got a bit lost finding the parking area and finding the restaurant itself.

Kanin Club: Deadly delicious
For my Papa's birthday, we went to one of the hottest places in the metro right now, The Ayala Triangle Garden which is right behind the Philippine Stock Exchange in Makati. It's said to be the fave hangout of all the yuppies in the business district. Fortunately, it is not crowded on Sundays and we were able to easily get a table at Kanin Club.

Sentro 1771, fabulous filipino food, finally!
After some mildly disappointing meals at Fely J and Mesa, my faith in upscale Filipino food has been restored with Sentro 1771. We've always wanted to go there but were afraid that since it was part of the Chateau 1771 group, it would be insanely expensive. Fortunately, it's just around average for Greenblet resto prices but infinitely more satisfying.

Savory Lomi

It rained hard this week on what was supposed to be the first few days of summer vacation which had me craving for some comfort food like Savory's steaming hot bowl of Lomi. I wasn't too happy with my first experience with Lanmark Makati's Savory outlet at their food court. It was near closing time and the food was very oily. But I ordered the lomi right in the middle of the day and got a really , well, savory dish that engulfs you in a heady mix of noodles and shrimp and rich, delectable soup. It's a bit pricey for a merienda at P120 but just about right for lunch or dinner. You'll feel full for hours. Be warned , though, of the MSG. One hour later my head was spinning though it also may have been from sleep deprivation. It may be better to have this at the end of the day so you'll have sweet dreams of lomi goodness.

Food finds at Glorietta 4 foodcourt
Went to watch Wall E at Glorietta 4 last Tuesday and was pleasantly surprised to find a small Dulcelin stall near Gourdo's where they sell their mango torte and other sweets and unlike Cuervo, they sell a smaller serving of their torte for people who want that sweet fix but can't shell out P700+. Dulcelin offers a big frozen cup for P80.

But I must admit that I much prefer Cuervo's mango torte. I find Dulcelin's version too sweet , with a peanut brittle-like nougatine base which also had something like coconut milk mixed in. A nine inch version is "always available " for P580 but I'm more interested in their strawberry cake which is a bit pricey (6" cake for P550, 10", P950) but I'm told is delectable but advance notice is required. Call 374 2165 or mobile number 0917 535 2592. or email them at dulcelingourmet@msn.com

I also saw a sign that said that Savory,(sometimes mispronounced here as "sah-boree") the old chicken restaurant will soon have a stall in the foodcourt! I'm excited! They serve delicious fried chicken and a flavorful pancit canton that makes my mouth water just writing about it. Hope to see you soon!
